Funding
Totara
Park RDA is a non-profit making organisation.
Totara
Park RDA does Not receive Any
government funding and relies entirely on the generosity of
the public for support.
The Group charges only a minimal fee for our service which
does not cover our running costs. Therefore, our volunteers
have to spend many hours and resources on fundraising and
sourcing corporate funding to enable the Group to carry on
operating.
Our
greatest expense is our horses - our main assets! Without
them there would be no riding therapy for people with disabilities
in our community.
We
currently have ten horses. The financial requirement for purchase,
upkeep and welfare of each RDA horse is significant and ongoing.
Our
riders benefit most from our riding programmes if the horses
are suitable RDA horses. This means they must be fit, healthy
and happy – all the time! To achieve this, the horses
are cared for daily by our Horse Manager.
The
purchase of a suitable RDA horse would usually be in the range
of $3,000 - $5,000 plus gear required for it: for example,
saddle $800, bridle etc. $50 and cover $200.
It
costs us at least $1750 each year to look after the health
and welfare of one RDA horse.

Capital Expenses:
Over
the past few years we have raised money for special building
projects, such as all weather surfaced riding arena, a round
training pen and covered horse yards.
In
order to expand our operation, as well as provide more continuity
to our riders’ programme, we have embarked on a major
project which includes building an indoor riding arena. We
are planning that this will be of suitable size to be able
to lease out for other events and organizations (national
and international) to further equestrian sporting activities
in the community.
