At Totara Park RDA, we are proud of our well mannered, fit and keen horses. We value them highly because..
No horse = No RDA
To qualify to be a "Totara Park RDA Horse", horses and ponies must be patient, fit and well, free-moving with an even gait, have a great temperament and above all, be willing and happy to work with us.
We like to keep our horses fresh by allowing pony club and adult riders to "lease a pony".
This gives our a horses a variety of fun activities on site for non-RDA days
What a lovely gentle nature this little girl has – except she is not so little. She stands at 14.1 hands, but she is more finely built than most of our horses so appears smaller. She was bred up north, but was purchased from a gentleman at Tuakau South Auckland. She’s a crossbred paint coloured pony with a tail most blondes would die for - or at least spend a lot of money trying to emulate. At 8 1/2 years old she is our youngest horse. After initial training, she started her RDA duties under the guidance and watchful eye of our Horse Supervisor Fiona. Her temperament is proving to be an asset for her duties. Riding her out in the Park with the other horses, Zoe shows her manners are wonderful too.
Lily is our newest girl and our strongest. She is a Clydesdale-Cob with the ideal gentle nature for RDA work and very popular with riders and volunteers alike.
Amigo is a pint sized cheeky boy, standing at 11.2 hands. He is just the right height for riders who need full support from two side walkers.
Tobi is a full sized Miss, at 14.2 hands who loves a balanced rider, making her ideal for the independent adult riders
Dancer is a girl with a lovely even temper who puts the new rider at their ease. She thinks dress up is fun too and is quite okay about being kitted out for our annual Gingerbread Horse Bake fund raiser launch.
Shorty our ex race horse is a very inquisitive boy who likes to help, sometimes picking up toys off the barrel.
Hershey is a boy who likes to keep the rest of the herd inline. However he adapts well to all sorts of riders and always does his best to make it enjoyable for them.
Saint is a sturdy Welsh-Cob boy with a broad back and the patience of a Saint. If rider confidence is low, Saint’s your boy to ride.
